外国人との言葉によるコミュニケーション
外国人とコミュニケーションをする仕事に関わってから20年以上は経つだろうか（
もっと遡れば30年数年前に、イギリス人の英語教師と付き合い、Identityとは何かを学んだこともある）。
この評価について自分の心に素直に聞いてみれば、グローバルにかかわる仕事の実績として何を残せたかということよりも、彼らとの言葉によるコミュニケーションを通じて、喜んだり、腹を立てたりした経験を持てたことが何よりも嬉しかったように思う。
勤務先の外資系企業との雇用契約が今月末で切れるため、人事コンサルタントとして独立して食べていくか、もう一度だけ転職するかを検討する最中に、89歳の父が逝ってしまった。まだ暫くは家族を扶養しなければならない状況の下、悲しみにくれている暇はなく、人材紹介エージェントから、私のReferenceを取れる人を紹介してくれとの依頼を受けて、ドットラインの上司であるフランス人に入れたメールと返信が以下に引用するものである。
「以心伝心」も、結局は書かれた言葉から察するしかないと思っているが、お悔やみの言葉を外国人からかけてもらうと、心の底から共感してくれていることを感じありがたく思う（涙が出そうになるほどである）。
英語（正確には、International English)というツールを通してこのようなコミュニケーションを行える幸いに感謝しつつ、父の冥福を祈りたい。
もしかすると、日本人同士の間では若干コミュニケーション障害の嫌いがあるかもしれないと思うことがある一方で、外国人とのコミュニケーションに苦痛を感じることはほとんどない（彼らが我慢しているだけかもしれないが）。いずれにせよ、言葉によるコミュニケーションをこれからも外国人と続けることで自らを成長させたいと願っている。
